What can I use instead of a beach umbrella?

Posted by Admin

If you find carrying or setting up a beach umbrella too troublesome, or worry about it being blown away by the wind, there are many more stable alternatives with larger shaded areas available on the market.

Here are some common beach umbrella alternatives:

◾ Beach Tent

Features: Like a semi-open small house, usually with three walls and one open side.
Advantages: It not only blocks the sun overhead but also protects against wind and sand from the sides, providing excellent privacy, suitable for changing clothes or napping for children.
Securing method: Most beach tents come with sandbag pockets, which, when filled with sand, are very stable and less likely to tip over than beach umbrellas.

◾ Beach Cabana

Features: This type of sunshade usually has four pillars supporting a flat roof.
Advantages: Its appearance is more sophisticated than a beach umbrella, and it's well-ventilated on all four sides, so you won't feel stuffy. Its shaded area is usually large enough for a family of four to have a picnic underneath.
Securing method: The base of the pillars usually has large-capacity sandbags, using the weight of the sand to firmly hold it to the ground.

◾ Wind-Powered Shade (Shibumi Shade/Wind Shade)

Features: This is a very popular lightweight sunshade in recent years, looking like a giant kite or banner, supported by only one long pole.
Advantages: It uses the sea breeze to inflate the lightweight fabric into an arc, creating shade. It's extremely lightweight and folds down to the size of a water bottle, requiring no strenuous digging like a beach umbrella.
Limitations: This type of sunshade requires wind to be set up and cannot be used on completely windless days.

◾ Beach Canopy/Tarp

Features: A shaded area created by several poles and a large piece of sun-protective fabric.
Advantages: This method is very flexible; you can adjust the height of the poles according to the position of the sun. Because it is secured by several ropes and weights buried in the sand (such as sandbags), it is much more stable than a regular beach umbrella on windy days.

◾ Chair Umbrella

Features: A miniature sunshade that clips directly onto the back of a beach chair.
Advantages: This small umbrella is very convenient if you're going to the beach alone. It doesn't require being stuck into the ground and moves with the chair, providing precise shade for your upper body.
